Open hearted
A few words from the board of directors of the endowment fund
Marie-Claire Gaudelet, Pastor, and Renaud Schoettel, President of the Saint-Paul 1897 Fund, initiated this major renovation project with their team to save this heritage.
What motivates you to undertake this fundraising campaign?
Marie-Claire Gaudelet, pastor"We feel both privileged and responsible as heirs to this building and this history. With this project, we are part of a chain, where we must in turn pass on to future generations a place that can fulfill its vocation: to be open to the city, to welcome all those who come, to accompany them if they wish, to give space to their spiritual and cultural questions."
Renaud Schoettel, president of the presbyteral council"Without the support of patrons and donors, the restoration project will come to a halt! There is a real risk that the church will be closed for safety reasons. This would mean the loss of a historic monument in the heart of the Neustadt, but also of all the spiritual and cultural activities that take place in this unique place."
What are the values behind "Le Cœur à l'Ouvrage"?
Marie-Claire Gaudelet, pastor"Saint-Paul is a church marked by history, marked in its flesh, by wars and bad weather, but which remains standing! This place says that it is possible to start again, to start from scratch, beyond difficulties, scars and generations. It is also a place which has the particularity of being the Protestant university parish of Strasbourg, fundamentally focused on young people, focused on the future."
Renaud Schoettel, president of the presbyteral council« Les valeurs d’un projet collectif et solidaire. »
"Save Saint-Paul!" - to whom is this call for help addressed?
Marie-Claire Gaudelet, pastor“To all! Because just as people love to go to museums, they love to go to churches. These are places where beauty enriches and embellishes life, like a painter’s canvas that particularly moves us; they are places that also situate us in relation to the past, the present and the future, that elevate the soul and give space to our reflections whatever our convictions. The 15 doors of Saint-Paul are wide open to share together events and moments of life, to walk with the small and large questions of our contemporaries in a spirit of openness, constructive debate, tolerance and the proclamation of unalterable human dignity. It is in the DNA of Reformed Protestantism.”
Renaud Schoettel, president of the presbyteral council"We are also counting on businesses, foundations, associations, all the city's stakeholders, who want to give meaning to their actions, by saving a regional heritage dear to the hearts of all Strasbourg residents and far beyond! The sums at stake are such that we need everyone."
